Months 6–24
Starting solids — Merve Koç, MSc RD

bring a photo of the high chair

Counselling that starts as your baby nears six months and plans first tastes, texture changes and iron-rich foods step by step. Purées, finger foods or a mix of both; we choose the method that fits your home.

The most common question when starting solids is "where do we begin?". At the first visit we look together at your baby's readiness signs, the family's table and your paediatrician's advice.

A four-week first-foods calendar, introducing allergens, and cutting and texture tips that reduce choking risk are part of the plan. For babies at high risk of allergy we plan allergen introduction with your paediatrician.

Who is it for?

  • Families with a 5–7-month-old baby
  • Those undecided between purées and finger foods
  • Those who have started solids but are stuck on texture changes
  • Families of twins or premature babies (on medical advice)

Questions about this service

Should we start solids at 4 months?

The World Health Organization and the Turkish Ministry of Health recommend breast milk only for the first six months and starting solids at 6 months. If your baby has a particular condition, your paediatrician decides the timing.

When can I give my baby water?

A baby fed only breast milk does not need extra water in the first six months. Once solids start you can offer a little water from a cup at meals.
